Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI). Required courses include:

  • Investigators, Staff, and Students, Basic Course
  • Species specific modules appropriate to the study (rat, rabbit, mouse, etc.)
  • Occupational Health and Safety Training for Personnel Working with Research Animals

Note: Completion of these requirements is necessary to work with animals, but no person may work with or care for animals until the PI of the lab has received official confirmation from the BIACUC Administrator of committee approval.

Training in Aseptic Surgical Technique

All lab personnel performing, assisting, teaching, or supervising surgeries must complete training in basic surgical technique with an IUB veterinarian. New personnel added to protocols must complete this training before they participate in any surgeries. Surgery training need not be completed before a person is added to a protocol; only before they participate in surgery. For more information see the Personnel Requirements page.
